New multi-standard HSPA+/LTE RRH product follows successful WiMAX
RRH format, with high power and highest efficiency to lower CAPEX and
OPEX and assist migration path to LTE networks
Barcelona, Spain –– Axis Network Technology (AxisNT)
has announced the launch of a range of multi-carrier remote radio heads
(RRH) offering multi-standard operation across both 3.5G HSPA+ networks
and the planned 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE™) networks.
The industry leading RRHs provide 2 x 25W of diversity multi-carrier RF
power using AxisIPR™ advance amplifier technology within 406 x 293 x
153mm (18 litres). They operate over the 1.85GHz – 2.62GHz E-UTRA
frequency bands, for either TDD or FDD modulation formats, with models
for E-UTRA bands 38 and 40 available for immediate OEM deployment. The
units are based on the same innovative design platform as AxisNT’s
successful WiMAX RRH, which is already being manufactured and shipped in
volume worldwide. |

The units can be customised to meet
the specific interface and packaging requirements of the OEM, including
the option of OBSAI RP3-01 or CPRI digital baseband interfaces or custom
OEM fibre interfaces. Designing basestations using a distributed RRH
approach minimises the environmental impact of the basestation and
considerably reduces both CAPEX and OPEX of the overall system, due to
their significantly lower energy consumption and maintenance costs.
Using RRHs also accelerates time-to-deployment, as well as giving
maximum scalability and flexibility for LTE network deployments.
Flexibility, reliability, coverage and capacity are all maximized by the
use of RRHs.
The RRHs can operate with 2-channel MIMO for HSPA+/LTE, and they are
also capable of 4-channel MIMO operation if two daisy-chained units are
used. They feature field programmable LTE channel bandwidths from 1.4MHz
to 20MHz, and control and alarm management with AxisOS™ O&M.
“Axis WiMAX RRHs have already been very successful in reducing
deployment costs and speeding rollout of WiMAX networks,” commented
Michel Vieuxmaire, Sales Director of AxisNT. “These new units offer the
same benefits to OEMs developing networks that will scale from HSPA+ to
full LTE functionality, with the advantage that the RRHs can be
customised to their own mechanical and interface requirements.”
AxisNT multi-carrier RRHs
feature: automatic calibration for transmit, receive and PA bias control
loops; OBSAI RP3-01 and CPRI V2 digital baseband interfaces with one or
two optical connectors; very high reliability including an advanced
failure mode prediction capability, as well as inherent fibre and RF
redundancy.
For full deployment flexibility, carriers can be placed anywhere within
the full 20MHz bandwidth supported by the AxisNT RRH, including
non-contiguous carrier placement,
Support for adaptive antenna systems (AAS) and AISG v2.0 antenna control
is provided, and the unit features a compact, lightweight modular design
in a die-cast enclosure, with solar shield for outdoor use.
