Course Description:
This course is a three-day Boot Camp event, which covers all of the necessary topics to prepare a technical student to take the WiMAX Security Professional™ certification exam. The course is designed for experienced networking professionals, some of whom have already completed their WiMAX Core Network Design certification, who will be designing, implementing, and monitoring the security properties of a WiMAX network. The course is primarily knowledge-based, enhanced with labs to demonstrate the configuration and operations of security tools.

Course Outline:

Module 1: WiMAX Network Design Options
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  • List six applications of WiMAX technology
  • Match each application to its WiMAX specification, frequency band, and architecture
  • Detail the current status of WiMAX deployments
  • Describe five mobile WiMAX features
Module 2: WiMAX Authentication
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  • Compare and contrast the four EAP types that appear in the WiMAX security requirements
  • Choose the appropriate EAP type and encryption option for your network needs
  • Diagram the PKMv2 message flows for authentication of WiMAX stations
  • Configure Authentication servers for WiMAX
Module 3: WiMAX Encryption and Key Management Configuration
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  • List the Encryption options from the WiMAX specifications
  • Diagram the PKMv2 Key Exchange and Key Refresh message exchanges
  • Configure WiMAX base stations and subscriber stations for encryption
Module 4: Hacker Attacks and Countermeasures
  • Anticipate the five more common hacker attacks, and effective countermeasures for each
  • List and configure industry tools that are available to implement countermeasures
  • Prepare security equipment lists for your WiMAX network
Module 5: Intrusion Detection and Monitoring
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  • Define all of the List and configure industry intrusion detection tools
  • Develop policies for physical network security
  • Develop a plan for ongoing monitoring of network security
Module 6: Design for Security: In-class Case Study: Secure Network Design
End of day 3: In-class Certification Testing Opportunity At the end of the three-day boot camp, students will have the opportunity to complete the proctored WiMAX Security Professional™ certification exam, which tests relevant knowledge and practical configuration skills.

Boot Camp practical experience:
The boot camp is structured as 70% tutorial content, and 30% hands-on exercises, illustrated with case studies. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of security tools and servers during the in-class exercises. You’ll have the experience of designing a secure network for a sample WiMAX-served community.
