VICTORIA - Vecima Networks Inc. ("Vecima") (TSX:VCM), the Last Mile
Solution(R) for broadband wired and wireless networks, today announced
the launch of its Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certified 3.65
GHz VistaMAX base and subscriber stations, the latest addition to
Vecima's VistaMAX family of WiMAX compliant products. Based on the IEEE
802.16-2004 standard, the FCC certified 3.65 GHz VistaMAX products,
including both base and subscriber stations, offers US operators the
opportunity to reap the benefits of WiMAX while operating in a lightly
licensed piece of spectrum. |

"Building on the success of our 900 MHz WaveRider
and wireless DOCSIS solutions, we are focused on providing US customers
with a cost effective and proven solution that will enable them to
strengthen their business model and generate more revenue from their
networks," said Robert Forget, Director of Wireless Product Management
at Vecima. "After receiving FCC certification for our 3.65 GHz VistaMax
equipment we are now ready to offer products that address the specific
needs of the important US market."
Vecima believes that every community deserves to
benefit from broadband access and with Vecima's VistaMAX products,
bringing broadband to underserved rural areas has never been easier. The
3.65 GHz VistaMAX is based upon the same platform as Vecima's 3.5 GHz
VistaMAX which has been successfully deployed in 25 different countries.
In order to allow US operators to test Vecima's equipment in their own
environment, and to address their different needs and budget
constraints, Vecima has designed two cost-effective 3.65 GHz WiMAX
starter kits. For a limited time Vecima is offering qualified US
Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) the opportunity to evaluate
the equipment for a 30-day period.
"With the low cost of ownership, our new 3.65 GHz VistaMAX should allow
WISPs all over the United States to overcome the challenges they are
facing with the overly cluttered 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz unlicensed bands and
also address the heightened budgetary constraints that they are facing
in the current economic climate," said Sumit Kumar, Vecima's VP of
Corporate Strategy.
About VistaMAX
The VistaMAX product family is based on IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and is
commercially available in the 1.9GHz, 3.5GHz and 3.65GHz frequencies.
The VistaMAX base station is an all-outdoor base station that is
contained in weatherproof sealed housing. The VistaMAX base station has
an integrated 60, 90 or 120 degree antennas to offer a single box
solution for WiMAX applications. External antennas can be accommodated
with an optional N female connector. The VistaMAX system also offers
both outdoor and indoor subscriber units with planned addition of USB
and PCMCIA CPEs. The VistaMAX Network Management Server provides full
control over all the networks' different elements. The VistaMAX has been
successfully deployed and trialed worldwide.
About Vecima Networks
Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM) designs,
manufactures and sells products that enable broadband access to cable,
wireless and telephony networks. Vecima's hardware products incorporate
original embedded software to meet the complex requirements of
next-generation, high-speed digital networks. Service providers use
Vecima's solutions to deliver services to a converging worldwide
broadband market, including what are commonly known as "triple play"
(voice, video and data) and "quadruple play" (voice, video, data and
wireless) services. Vecima's solutions allow service providers to
rapidly and cost-effectively bridge the final network segment that
connects the system directly to end users, commonly referred to as "the
last mile," by overcoming the bottleneck resulting from insufficient
carrying capacity in legacy, last mile infrastructures. Vecima's
products are directed at two principal markets: Converged Wired
Solutions and Broadband Wireless. The Company has also developed, and
continues to focus on developing, products to address emerging markets
such as Voice over Internet Protocol, fibre to the home and IP video.
