Mobile WiMAX Standardization to be Discussed at 3G Conference in Spain

Other Topics: Canadian WiMAX Network, 802.16e OFDM, WiMAX Network Surveillance

December 14, 2005

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has ratified the mobile version of the WiMAX broadband technology. This decision is the starting point for development of official WiMAX equipment for telecoms providers and end users, which will ensure rapid development and greater compatibility between equipment from different vendors.

Mobile WiMax trials and certification testing by the WiMAX Forum can now proceed in the first half of 2006, industry observers say, with products to follow in late 2006 or 2007. At visiongain's Beyond 3G conference in Madrid, Spain, Kevin Suitor, Marketing Director, WiMAX Forum will be answering the key questions surrounding the next phase of mobile WiMAX standardisation. The conference will also explore the technologies that could be a possible successor to 3G including High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), High Speed Uplink Pack Access (HSUPA), 1xEV-DO and OFDMA as well as combined solutions.

Beyond 3G will be held March 22nd - 23rd, 2006, in Tryp Atocha, Madrid, Spain. The Pre-Conference Workshop on March 21st, 2006 will be Examining the evolution of 3G services: past and future, led by Booz Allen Hamilton.
