Innovator of the Year - Navini

Navini Networs Named WiMAX Innovator of the Year

Company selected for its leading role in the development of 802.16e technology

Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of non-line-of-sight, zero-install wide-area wireless broadband technology, recently received Frost & Sullivan's WiMAX Technology Innovation of the Year Award. Navini was selected for their pioneering efforts in the development of high-performance non-line-of-sight wireless broadband (WiMAX) technology, in the 802.16e arena. Navini received the award September 22, 2004 at Frost & Sullivan's annual technology awards banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"It is always an honor to be recognized for your hard work and efforts," said Roger Dorf, president and chief executive officer of Navini Networks. "The creation of 802.16e takes 802.16 from the world of fixed wireless to that of the portable/mobile wireless through the use of innovative technologies such as Smart antennas. This award validates the progress that Navini has made in the 802.16 front by providing a logical path to smart antenna based portable/mobile 802.16e solution from the current fixed wireless world of 802.16a, " said Dorf.

Frost & Sullivan's Technology Innovation of the Year Award is bestowed upon a company (or individual) that has carried out new research; which has resulted in innovation(s) that have or are expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. This award recognizes the quality and depth of a company's research and development program as well as the vision and risk-taking that enabled it to undertake such an endeavor.

To choose the award recipient, Frost & Sullivan's analyst team tracks innovation in key hi-tech markets. The selection process includes primary participant interviews and extensive primary and secondary research via the bottom-up approach. The analyst team shortlists candidates on the basis of a set of qualitative and quantitative measurements. The analyst also considers the pace of research and technology innovation and the significance or potential relevance of the innovation to the overall industry. The ultimate award recipient is chosen after a thorough evaluation of this research.

Many of the challenges in developing WiMAX have been successfully addressed by Navini. One of these was to develop an 'out of magnitude' technology which was better than 3G technology. Navini successfully developed a revised version WiMAX technology, which can provide broadband speed within a 3-5 mile radius with mobility access.

"Navini is currently involved in one of the largest deployments in the world with Sydney, Australia based wireless broadband company Unwired," said Dorf. "With Unwired, we are on track to build the largest zero install plug and play network that today, delivers on the promise of an 802.16e world of large-scale portable/mobile broadband."

Always ahead of the curve, Navini continues to concentrate on fine-tuning 802.16e, the IEEE standard version of the WiMAX technology. 802.16e's major significance when compared to existing versions is that it adds mobility to a wireless network by making the necessary changes such as allowance for new and improved technologies such as adaptive phased array antennas - one of Navini's key strengths. Without these improvements, wireless broadband lacks the necessary link budget to deliver zero install wide area broadband.

Lindsay Schroth, senior analyst of the Yankee Group's Broadband Access Technologies group is impressed with Navini's strides in the 802.16e and WiMax space. "Navini is helping to take WiMax from the traditional fixed wireless world into the zero install portable/mobile broadband wireless world using advanced smart antenna technology," said Schroth.

About Navini Networks Headquartered in Richardson, Texas, the heart of the Telecom Corridor, Navini Networks offers patented wide-area wireless broadband technology that addresses the world's need and desire for high-speed Internet access. Navini provides nomadic, zero-install, non-line-of-sight infrastructure to allow for anytime, anywhere Web access. Navini Networks' Ripwave™ products consist of a customer modem, base station, and element management system (EMS) and run in the 2.3 GHz WCS, 2.4 GHz ISM, 2.5/2.6 GHz ITFS/MMDS and 3.5 GHz WLL spectrums. Navini's solution results in a price/performance combination that is superior to other broadband offerings in the marketplace. For more information on Navini, please visit www.navini.com.
