WiMAX Platform - Axxcelera

Axxcelera Broadband Wireless announces launch of WiMAX Platform

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., January 12, 2005 - Axxcelera Broadband Wireless, a Moseley Wireless Solutions Group Company and recognized global leader providing broadband wireless communications products and technologies, announced that it will launch commercially available 802.16-2004 compliant WiMAX products in the licensed 3.3-3.7 GHz band as well as the unlicensed 5.2-5.8 GHz band.

"The broadband wireless market has long waited for a true standards-based technology that allows service providers to select certified products from different vendors and also allows for product costs to reduce sharply with large scale deployments worldwide," said Jamal Hamdani, President and CEO of Axxcelera Broadband Wireless. "Our new 3.5 GHz ExcelMax and 5 GHz AB-Max platforms demonstrate Axxcelera's commitment to bring certified WiMAX products to our customers worldwide. We plan to continue our innovative approach to leveraging industry standards and upgrading our WiMAX platforms to support 802.16e compliant mobile broadband applications in the future," said Mr. Hamdani.

The 3.5 GHz ExcelMax platforms will support both FDD as well as TDD applications and will provide cost effective solutions to residential, SoHo and SME broadband users. "ExcelMax-FD leverages WiMAX technology for improved NLOS operation while maintaining a full duplex air interface required to support revenue-generating applications like Triple Play (data, voice and video). It is based on carrier class, scalable base stations and network management platforms. Our 3.3-3.4 GHz TDD platform, ExcelMax-TD, offers a unique option to utilize low cost integrated outdoor base station access points with the ExcelMax CPE. This architecture provides a scalable, low cost infrastructure rollout for mass market residential and SoHo users," commented Sanjay Nagpal, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Licensed Products. Service providers using the ExcelAirŽ 70 platform today can keep their infrastructure investments preserved since the current ExcelAir 70 base station offers a true upgrade path to support the current single carrier high capacity air interface simultaneously with the new WiMAX air interface on the same base station.

AB-Max, the next generation platform of the highly successful AB Access platform, will operate in the license-exempt 5.8 GHz ISM band, the lower 5.3 GHz U-NII band, and the upper 5.47 GHz U NII band. As business and residential customers continue to demand increased capacity and functionality within their wireless networks, the AB-Max addresses this demand by allowing for expansive reach within the last mile by utilizing an OFDM-based architecture with NLOS technology. AB-Max will support different bandwidth, interface and CPE options to allow service providers to offer different customer applications. "These product enhancements, while meeting the technological demands of customers, also address the increased price pressure from operators by providing a lower cost CPE to penetrate markets which were previously dominated by DSL and Cable operators," said Jerry Kollmann, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Unlicensed Products for Axxcelera Broadband.
