The reference design in the form of an extended length Mini-PCI card
facilitates system design by providing a plug-and-play complete solution
for the lower layer air interface and time critical low-level MAC
functionality. It allows equipment manufacturers to tailor the
motherboard providing the higher layer application processor and
peripherals according to their specific needs, hence reducing
development efforts. Wavesat’s
EvolutiveTM WiMAX 3GHz Mini-PCI Reference Design Series comprises a set
of 3 modem cards covering the frequency range from 3.3-3.8GHz. The
3.3-3.5GHz and 3.4-3.6GHz designs are available now; the 3.6-3.8Ghz
design will be available later this year. All designs are using
Wavesat’s DM256 chipset and MC236-PCI MAC coprocessor. One motherboard
design fits all three frequency bands by simply switching the Mini-PCI
card. The motherboard processor has access to and from the modem card
through the Mini-PCI Interface.
“We see a lot of interest for the 3.3-3.5GHz frequency band in the Asia
Pacific region and especially in India, commented Vijay Dube, VP
Marketing and Business Development for Wavesat. “The fact that the
3.3-3.5GHz WiMAX Mini-PCI design can significantly accelerate the
development of cost-effective CPEs and is based on Wavesat’s WiMAX Forum
Certified™ CPE design makes it doubly appealing for equipment
manufacturers in the region.“
