Allows Equipment Manufacturers to jump-start development of WiMAX systems for Asia Pacific Region

San Jose, CA -- Wavesat (www.wavesat.com), a leading supplier of WiMAX chipsets, software and reference designs announced today the immediate availability of a 3.3-3.5GHz Mini-PCI reference design as part of a complete 3GHz product Series. Wavesat’s 3.3-3.5GHz Mini-PCI design is optimized to allow equipment manufacturers worldwide to rapidly bring WiMAX equipment to market.

The reference design in the form of an extended length Mini-PCI card facilitates system design by providing a plug-and-play complete solution for the lower layer air interface and time critical low-level MAC functionality. It allows equipment manufacturers to tailor the motherboard providing the higher layer application processor and peripherals according to their specific needs, hence reducing development efforts.

Wavesat’s EvolutiveTM WiMAX 3GHz Mini-PCI Reference Design Series comprises a set of 3 modem cards covering the frequency range from 3.3-3.8GHz. The 3.3-3.5GHz and 3.4-3.6GHz designs are available now; the 3.6-3.8Ghz design will be available later this year. All designs are using Wavesat’s DM256 chipset and MC236-PCI MAC coprocessor. One motherboard design fits all three frequency bands by simply switching the Mini-PCI card. The motherboard processor has access to and from the modem card through the Mini-PCI Interface.

“We see a lot of interest for the 3.3-3.5GHz frequency band in the Asia Pacific region and especially in India, commented Vijay Dube, VP Marketing and Business Development for Wavesat. “The fact that the 3.3-3.5GHz WiMAX Mini-PCI design can significantly accelerate the development of cost-effective CPEs and is based on Wavesat’s WiMAX Forum Certified™ CPE design makes it doubly appealing for equipment manufacturers in the region.“

Wavesat WiMAX Portfolio
Wavesat was the first company to receive WiMAX Forum certification for a CPE design earlier this year. Wavesat's award-winning WiMAX product portfolio supports both base stations and subscriber units for licensed and license-exempt radio frequencies. Wavesat provides a full-range of standards-based integrated circuits, software, and development platforms supporting WiMAX 802.16-2004 and 802.16e-2005 standards.

Featuring the industry’s only WiMAX Mini-PCI card and chosen by ODMs and OEMs worldwide, Wavesat’s WiMAX portfolio provides effective wireless connectivity for a wide range of network sizes and coverage from urban to rural applications.

Wavesat provides solutions for each WiMAX market segment including:

  • Fixed (access points, backhaul, DSL extensions) with 802.16-2004 OFDM Evolutive™ solutions.
  • Nomadic & Portable (fixed system to include high-speed connectivity for laptop and portable applications) with 802.16d+ OFDM Evolutive™ products.
  • Full mobility with 802.16e-2005 sOFDMA UMobile™ WiBro/WiMAX product family
