Motorola Networks CTO Dan Coombes Delivers 'WiMAX - The Way to Seamless Mobility' Keynote Address

Boston, MA -- Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it is the Official Corporate Host of WiMAX World 2005, described by event organizers as the largest-ever gathering of equipment manufacturers, operators, service providers and software makers meeting to further the understanding and advancement of WiMAX, the wireless broadband technology standard 802.16. This sponsorship is the latest proof point of Motorola's leadership in driving an industry wide adoption of WiMAX-based technologies and solutions that have the promise of opening up new services for consumers, growth for wireless and cable operators and wholly new opportunities for start-ups.

Motorola executives are leading six addresses at WiMAX World. Delivering the industry keynote on Fri., Oct. 28, Motorola Networks Chief Technology Officer Dan Coombes will describe Motorola's vision of convergence and the role WiMAX will help play in bringing "seamless mobility" to diverse networks and devices. Coombes will examine how WiMAX will affect existing services; and describe how WiMAX can provide the link for convergence among different technologies, including cellular, broadband wireless, WiFi, and wireline.

WiMAX, with an estimated addressable global market for fixed and mobile broadband solutions of up to USD$1 billion in 2007 and USD$4 billion by 2010 according to Maravedis, is one of the fastest growing emerging sectors within the world's telecommunications industry. Maravedis is a leading research and analysis firm focusing on broadband wireless technologies including WiMAX.

Already a leading wireless broadband equipment provider through its Canopy(TM) product line, Motorola continues to meet the opportunities of WiMAX through MOTOwi4(TM), a product line of fixed and mobile broadband solutions designed to meet the different needs of wireless, wireline, and cable operators for lower cost delivery of data rich multimedia applications and services.

"Motorola' sponsorship of WiMAX World is another sign of our commitment and ability to bring the wider industry community together to fully appreciate what WiMAX can do and how we can realize that potential," said Coombes. "At Motorola, we feel that WiMAX will reach a tipping point in 2006. The foundation we have laid this year through trials, our work in embracing the mobility standard, 802.16e, and introducing the MOTOwi4 line will pay off as we ship our first WiMAX product in Spring 2006."

At WiMAX World 2005 Booth # 103, Motorola will demonstrate the capability of its IMS solution to deliver Voice over IP (VoIP), end-to-end converged services and applications across today's broadband networks and emerging WiMAX access environments.

Motorola, using its IMS core and market leading MOTOwi4 Canopy(TM) solution, will demonstrate IP-based voice, video, conferencing services, unified messaging, ringback tones, and other SIP-based applications on multiple devices including Motorola's Ojo(TM) Personal Video Phone. In addition, visitors can learn about Motorola's Mesh Networks technology and the role it will play in a WiMAX environment.
