WiMAX Telephony

WiMAX Telecom first in the world to market telephony via WiMAX technology

Other Articles: Enterprise Broadband Wireless Access, WiMAX Europe, WiMAX PCI Card

WiMAX Telecom Group
February 20, 2006

Vienna  -- WiMAX Telecom Group, the only multinational WiMAX service provider in Europe, is the first in the world to offer telephony via WiMAX technology. "WiMAX FON" is the cheapest comprehensive lastmile connectivity solution in Austria. Its offers the sound quality of a fixed network and works with ordinary telephone handsets. Thanks to number portability, customers can simply take their existing telephone number with them when switching to WiMAX FON.

WiMAX is the new broadband wireless standard with a transmission range of up to 15 km. To date, customers are able to use this new technology for all their Internet requirements. With WiMAX FON, they can now also use WiMAX for voice telephony – with their existing telephone handsets and the same quality as calls over the old fixed network. WiMAX Telecom is thereby one of the first providers in the world to offer customers mobile broadband data and voice services.

WiMAX FON is available throughout the entire broadcast area* with immediate effect: A monthly subscription including 120 free minutes to the Austrian fixed network costs € 9.90/month (including VAT). Calls to the fixed network cost from 2 cts. and the entire Austrian mobile network can be reached from around 22 cts. After the first minute, calls are charged per second.

Dov Bar-Gera, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WiMAX Telecom AG said, "We are pleased that once again we are the first to offer our customers the latest communications solution, thereby creating a real alternative for the last mile."

Number portability
One of the conveniences is that anyone switching to WiMAX FON does not have to give up their old telephone number. Simply filling in a porting form ensures that the telephone number remains the same. A porting fee of € 35 will be charged.

All of Europe in their sights
With offices in Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia and Croatia, WiMAX Telekom is the only independent and multinational WiMAX service provider in Europe. Both in Austria and Slovakia, it owns country-wide licenses and already serves customers on its active networks. The company's focus, however, is directed at the whole of central and eastern Europe.
