GLOBALIVE WIRELESS CHOOSES DRAGONWAVE TO DELIVER NEXT GENERATION TECHNOLOGY IN MULTIMILLION DOLLAR 3G NETWORK BUILD ACROSS CANADA

DragonWave Inc
July 10, 2009

Canadian firm selected from field of leading global wireless network solution suppliers

Ottawa, Canada, - DragonWave Inc. (TSX: DWI) a global supplier of high-capacity, wireless native Ethernet backhaul solutions for mobile and access networks, today announced Globalive Wireless Management Corp. has selected DragonWave to provide high-capacity, cost effective next generation wireless backhaul for its high speed packet access network in support of Globalive’s commitment to bring more value and innovation to Canadian consumers.

“As we build Canada’s newest wireless network, our commitment is to provide Canadian consumers with unmatched value”, asserts Ken Campbell, CEO of Globalive Wireless Management Corp. “For that, we need future-ready technology that enables the delivery of high-capacity, cost-effective IP-based services.”

New IP applications are quickly exceeding the capacity of existing networks. DragonWave’s made-in-Canada Horizon Compact product allows companies to meet the growing demand for more bandwidth without the expense of building or expanding a fibre backbone.

“After a rigorous search of global suppliers, we selected Canadian network solutions leader DragonWave for its innovative, Ethernet-based alternative to the more expensive leased-line and fibre optic infrastructure favored by legacy carriers”, explains Mr. Campbell. He adds that “Globalive Wireless is always looking for opportunities to engage Canadian suppliers.”

DragonWave Horizon and AirPair products operate in both licensed and unlicensed radio frequencies between 6 and 38 GHz. An uncompromised product design delivers pure “packet” microwave performance with software scalable, ultra-low latency transport of up to 1.6 Gbps per link. Extremely easy to deploy and manage, DragonWave products deliver carrier-grade (99.999%) interference-free performance in next-generation IP networks.

“We are excited to have been selected for the Globalive 3G network. This win represents our largest Canadian network to date and it is particularly pleasing that our solutions, which have been entirely developed in our Ottawa based R&D facilities, will be used in our home market. This is an important showcase network for us”, says DragonWave President and CEO Peter Allen. Adds Globalive CEO Ken Campbell, “We are not only pleased to be making a significant investment in Canadian technology, but also to be creating Canadian jobs in an innovative sector at a time when our country needs them the most. This is exactly in line with Canada’s need to transform itself into a more competitive, knowledge-based economy.”
